Here’s a confession that genuinely surprises people. We have photographed some of the most recognizable faces on the planet, and almost no brides. That is a little crazy, because once you understand how this studio works, you realize it might be the most perfect bridal setup that exists.

The Portrait Lab was built by Jeremy Cowart, whose portrait work includes Taylor Swift, the Kardashians, Emma Stone, Keith Urban, Tyler Perry, and a long list of names you would recognize. That is not name dropping for its own sake. It is the reason the lighting in this room is what it is, and the reason the approach works. If a way of shooting holds up under the most scrutinized faces in the world, it can do justice to the most important dress you will ever wear.

Any backdrop your wedding venue cannot give you

Think about what a bride actually wants from her portraits. Not a stiff pose against a single backdrop, but something that feels like her. Before the wedding, or long after it

The traditional timing is a few weeks before the ceremony, while the dress is pressed and the trial hair and makeup are worth photographing twice. That is the classic reason to book. The other reason is the day after, or a year after. Plenty of women realize later that there is no single great photo of them in that dress, because the wedding day photographer was busy documenting a hundred other things at once. Putting the gown back on in a quiet room with no timeline is a very different experience than twenty rushed minutes between the ceremony and the reception.

Bring the veil, the flowers, and anyone you want in the frame

Props are encouraged. The bouquet, the veil, the heirloom something, the boots under the dress. Up to eight people fit in the frame, so your mother, your sisters, or the whole bridal party can jump in for a few. The dress is the point, but it does not have to be the only thing in the room.

Engagement, rehearsal, and day after sessions

The same room works for engagement portraits, for the two of you the night before, and for a day after session while the dress is still on hand. Couples get the same 200+ backdrop wall and the same short session, which means you can do a soft romantic set and a dramatic editorial set back to back without changing anything except the screen behind you.

What it costs

The session is free. You walk in, we shoot, and you look at the frames before you leave. Basic is $99 for a single image. Standard is $249 for five. Premium is $499 for everything from the session. There is no sitting fee and no package to commit to before you have seen a photo. For a wedding budget that has already been through the wringer, that is a rare thing.
